Solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is a type of electrochemical power generators which uses solid oxides such as yttria-stablized zirconia (YSZ) for the electrolyte. As the YSZ are oxygen-ion-conducting materials, so not only pure hydrogen but a variety of hydrocarbons and even any reformate composition consists of multi-component species can be used in principle as fuel.A SOFC consists of two porous electrodes separated by a dense, gas-tight, oxide-ion-conducting electrolyte.Planar and tubular geometries are the two popular designs for solid oxide fuel cells.
