Until recently emphasis has been placed on site-scale green infrastructure approaches to stormwater controls. An emerging focus on larger district or local watershed-scale based approaches in existing and developing cities emphasizes stormwater controls that are integrated into urban streets, parks and open spaces to create multi-functional or multi-benefit systems that better manage water resources, and improve livability of urban environments. This paper illustrates concepts through the description of several planned and built projects in US and European cities.
