Uranyl (UO22+), the predominant aerobic form of uranium, is present in the ocean at the concentration of～3.2 ppb (13.7 nM).This concentration equates to 4.5 billion tons of uranium in seawater, dwarfing traditional reserves.However, competition among various metal ions and naturally occurring ligands has limited successful enrichment of uranyl from this vast resource in nature.
