Resveratrol and polydatin (piceid), the major active components of the traditional Chinese medicinal herb Polygonum cuspidatum[1], are widely distributed in plant kingdom. In 1989,the World Health Organization (WHO) has proved that resveratrol contained in wine could greatly decrease the morbidity and mortality rate of cardiopathy in France. In other reports, resveratrol has been shown to inhibit the copper-catalyzed (LDL), platelet clotting and arachidonate metabolism, reducing liver injury by peroxidized oils and possess cancer chemopreventive activity and oxidation of low-density lipoprotein[2].
