  Bladder cancer is a common malignancy, the fifth most common in the UK.It may be treated with cystectomy or organ preservation techniques, including the use of radiotherapy.Efforts to improve the therapeutic ratio for bladder preservation treatments have incorporated developments in external beam radiotherapy, such as improved conformality and modulation of the radiotherapy beam, and improved targeting of the irradiation, such as the use of image guided radiotherapy.
