江汉盆地位于中扬子地块中部,是由燕山早期北部秦岭-大别造山带和南部江南雪峰隆起挤压对冲带反转形成的晚白垩世以来的断陷盆地.始新世早期新沟咀组沉积时期,江汉盆地为广盆浅水沉积环境,物源以北部秦岭-大别造山带和西北部黄陵隆起为主,盆地南部可能缺少来自江南雪峰隆起的物源,推断储集层不发育,勘探潜力受到一定程度的制约.近年来,随着盆地南部耀1井、同升1井等钻井在新沟咀组的突破,证明了盆地南部新沟咀组油气勘
