This talk is a brief introduction to continuous and discrete Painlev'e equations from a geometric view point.While Painlev'e equations are defined by the Painlev'e property,i.e.the branch points of solutions are independent to the initial conditions,discrete Painle 'e equations are characterized by so called the singularity confinement criterion.
