Photocatalysts based on semiconductor particles together with cocatalysts for oxidation and reductions are key components for the direct conversion of sunlight to fuel. However, the complexity of the photocatalysis on both surface catalysis and charge transfer together with the small size scale(nano meter to micro meter)makes it extreme challenge to understand the behaviour of photogenerated charge carriers.Herein, making use of the newly developed photoelectrical imaging technique, several important progresses have been made, including the anisotropic space charge region in the different facets of single crystal semiconductor1,2,the role of cocatalyst on the special sites of photocatalyst played in the enhanced charge separation ability,Dember effect induced high efficient charge separation and plasma induced charge transfer across the interface of Au and TiO2 photocatalyst.
