Catalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are key steps involved in artificial photosynthesis for solar-energy conversion for the production of clean,carbon-free,and renewable energy sources, and thus they are considered to be appealing ways to eliminate the energy and environmental problems caused by burning fossil fuels.Extensive efforts have been made to develop efficient and robust catalysts for these two processes. In this talk,we will introduce our recent achievements in hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions catalyzed by metal porphyrins and corroles. Our research focuses on illustrating the reaction mechanisms and the structure-function relationships with model complexes of metal porphyrins and corroles.Particular emphasis is placed on the H-H and O-O bond formation steps.
