Salinization is a serious environmental problem and is increasing gradually in arid and semi-arid regions.Biological soil crusts (BSCs) can prevent the microorganisms in them from osmotic damage and stabilize the soil through the production of extracellular polysaccharides (EPS).And they are considered to be the major players in the biogeochemical cycles of carbon and nitrogen in arid and semi-arid ecosystems.
