林汉达(1900—1972),慈溪市龙山镇人。从小在教会学校读书,打下扎实的英文基础。1921年考入杭州之江大学,1924年毕业那年,他以之江大学学生代表的身份参加上海世界书局主办的全国大学英语演讲比赛,得第一名,获金质奖章。后在宁波四明中学任英语教师,1928年至1937年任世界书局英文编辑、英文编辑部主任、出版部主任。1937年秋至1939年秋,考入美国科罗拉州立大学研究院,获博士学位。回国后任之江大学英语教授。新中国成立后,历任燕京大学教授、教务
Lin Han Da (1900-1972), Longshan Town, Cixi City. From an early age in the church school, lay a solid foundation in English. He was admitted to Hangzhou Zhijiang University in 1921 and graduated in 1924. He took the first place in the National College English Speech Contest hosted by the Shanghai World Bookstore as a student representative of Zhijiang University and won the gold medal. Later, he was an English teacher in Ningbo Siming Middle School. From 1928 to 1937, he was editor in chief of World Bookstore, director of English editorial department and director of publishing department. Autumn 1937 to autumn 1939, admitted to Colorado State University Institute, received a doctorate. After returning to Ren Jiang University English professor.
