Objective To identify the influence of ages of patients with hemispheric cerebral infarction on the mortality of large craniectomy decompression. Methods Thirteen cases underwent large craniectomy decompression in the latest 5 years were retrospectively studied.Statistics were used to analyze the difference of mortality between the groups of cases with various ages. Results Mortality decreased when standard large craniectomy decompression was used.Although the treatment effectiveness of the cases with lower ages was better than that of the cases with higher ages, the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion Standard large craniectomy decompression was an effective method for the treatment of hemispheric cerebral infarction. The factor of age didnt have significant influence on mortality.
