Cochlea, the most significant structure in the hearing system of humanity,acts as a sound amplifier as well as a frequency divider which is sensitive to sound waves of varied frequencies.Cochlear traveling-wave is a displacement wave transmitting from the basal end of the basilar membrane (BM), which is a long and thin membrane bearing the auditory sensory cells, towards the apical end.As one of the most concerned mechanical behaviors in the hearing system of humanity, the cochlear traveling-wave motion plays an important role in the transfer and transformation of sound messages.Since Von Békésy s early qualitative and initial quantitative investigation on cochlear traveling-wave motion, the traveling-wave theory with further development and several considerable progress made over the past 50 years was widely accepted.However, quantitatively many important features such as traveling-wave velocity and propagation time of the Békésy s theory still remain unclear.
