Objective:The purpose of this case study is to describe the treatment using acupuncture and infrared radiation for a patient with a primary dysmenorrhea.Clinical Features:A 33-year-old woman presented with primary dysmenorrhea of 4 months duration.She had a history of periodic pain in lower abdomen that began in her teens and had been controlled with medication.She had stopped taking the prescription medications.A gynecologist diagnosed her with primary dysmenorrhea.Intervention and Outcome:After 6 treatments over a 2-months period,her pain resolved.She took another 4 treatments over the next two months.The patient had no recurrences of pains in her 6 months follow-up.Conclusion:The combination of acupuncture with infrared was a reasonable alternative in treating this patients primary dysmenorrhea.
