A High Definition video decoder for use with the Subway Vehicle Passenger Information System has been designed in the paper.Huge burden has been placed on CPU due to the massive amount of data in 1080p HD videos,coupled with enormous floating-point computations,that even a mainstream dual-core CPU can hardly decode one 1080p video stream.Thus a method has been proposed in this paper to do LDPC channel decoding and source decoding using GPU.GPU,with its powerful parallel floating point computation ability,can easily meet the requirement of real-time decoding of 1080p-HD videos.When tested on NVIDIAs ION2,the throughput of decoded video streams is high enough to satisfy the requirement of playbacking smoothly,meanwhile the CPU usage has been reduced to minimal.
