Speckled (Spc), a lethal mutant ofBombyx mori, exhibits a mosaic dark-brown spot larval epidermis and egg-laying problems in female. It was induced by X-rays.Here, we reported the morphological characterization and molecular mapping of the Spc mutant.Morphological investigations showed that the ultrastructure of small dark-brown spots was more compact compared to white regions in Spc/+ and wild type, and full lethality of Spc/Spc was occurred during early embryogenesis.
