The small brown planthopper (Laodelphax striatellus) is a wide-spread insect pest of rice in East Asia.It causes rice stripe disease by transmitting rice stripe virus. The insects and virus disease they transmit are difficult to control, especially to the regions where the damage is mainly caused by immigration population.Studies have shown L.striatellus migrate massively overseas, but little molecular evidence is gained to support the conclusion. In this study, we confirmed that the overseas mass migration occurred in the Northeast coastal rice growing region by monitoring the dynamic? incidence of L.striatellus and rice stripe disease. We collected the immigration population and 13 L.striatellus local populations from different geographical regions with serious rice stripe disease in China.
