State-of-the-art information displays have continued to expand and have far exceeded the size and weight limit for integration in portable devices.An ideal solution could be developing new displays that are light weight and stretchable,so that they may be folded into a small stowed volume; unfolded and stretched into large size external screens for connecting to small size portable electronics.For this goal,stretchable OLEDs will be presented as one of the most important building blocks in OLED displays.Such stretchable OLEDs can tolerate more than 100%linear strain,surpassing the deformation capability in any other flexible OLEDs.This new achievement was enabled by the development of: 1)stretchable carbon nanotube(CNT)or silver nanowire(AgNW)electrodes that exhibit superior conductivity,transparency,and surface smoothness comparable to commercial ITO/Glass,and 2)a new junction-OLED device architecture utilizing stable in-situ electrochemical doping which eliminates the requirement for electron and hole injection layers in OLEDs.Feasible approaches and challenges will also be discussed,especially the integration of OLEDs and transistors towards fully stretchable active-matrix OLED displays.
