  Apolipoproteins play physiological roles on nutrition transport and energy metabolism, and are associated with the risk of cardiovascular disease.Recent studies show an emerging role for this family in cell movement and morphogenesis.However, little is known about the mechanism by which apolipoproteins participate in these processes.Here we reveal a new pathway linking BMP signaling and Rab5-mediated endocytosis via Apolipoprotein Cl.BMP signaling induces ventral-dorsal gradient expression of apoc1b, a cytoplasmic isoform of apolipoprotein Cl in zebrafish gastrula, which is required for convergent movement.Direct interaction between Apoc1b and Rab5 inhibits the recycling of Rab5, resulting in the suppression of receptor internalization.Our findings uncover a novel function for Apolipoprotein Cl in Rab5-mediated cell trafficking, through which Apoc1b stabilizes E-cadherin-rnediated cell adhesion to ensure cell sheet migration and to induce convergent movement in a gradient manner.
