Objectives Our aim was to evaluate the acute, intermediate results of Cheatham-Platinum stent implantation for coarctation of the aorta in children.Methods 14 patients with CoA received CP stent implantation.The median age and body weight were 11 years(range4to 14years) and 38.4 kg(range 19.9 to 60kg).8 were male, 6 were female.6(46%) were native CoA and 7(54%) were recurrent CoA.Collect and analyse the data of pre-implantation, post-implantation and follow-up outcome.Results 14 CP stents were implanted successfully, including 6 bare stents and 8 covered stents.Immediately after stenting, the peak systolic pressure gradient decreased from 34.86±17.48 mmHg to 1.64±1.64 mmHg (p <0.001), and the CoA diameter increased from 6.45±1.39mm to 11.79±1.59 mm (p <0.001).The ratio of minimum CoA diameter to diameter of descending aorta (CoA:DAo) increased from 0.41±0.12 to 0.74±0.10 (p <0.001).upper extremity systolic blood pressure decreased from 142.07±28.95mmHg to 122.29±25.29 mmHg (p <0.001), and lower extremity systolic blood pressure increased from 105.21±21.35 mmHg to 122.29±25.29 mmHg (p <0.05).one patient died of disseminated intravascular coagulation(DIC) secondary to endomembrane avulsion of iliac artery 2 days after stent implantation.There was no aortic wall injury, both acutely and at follow-up.Conclusions Use of CP stents for treatment of CoA in children is effective in the short and intermediate term.To evaluate the long term results, more cases will be required, and follow-up is ongoing.
