In September 1981, editor-in-chief of “History of Science and Technology in China”, Dr. Joseph Needham of the University of Cambridge in England was invited to Shanghai for an academic speech. The host of the lecture originally invited one of my colleagues from Shanghai Jiaotong University to serve as interpreter. But unfortunately his mother died suddenly, temporarily asked me to serve.
