  Calcium oscillation is an essential signal for pollen tube growth in flowering plants.However,the molecular mechanism encoding calcium oscillations remains unknown.We report here that a pair of pollen-specific cyclic nucleotide-gated channels(CNGC18 and CNGC8)together with calmodulins constitutes a molecular switch that either activates or inactivates the calcium influx depending on cellular calcium levels.
