A general thermodynamic model is developed by combining organically the nonequilibrium thermodynamic analysis with the simulation of spray evaporation desalination processes. The model is capable of both simulating spray evaporation desalination processes and analyzing energy consumptions of the processes. The simulation results show that the structure parameters, physical property, operation parameters have significant influences on the entropy generation rate(EGR),and the nonequilibrium thermodynamic analysis is a potential tool to optimize the spray evaporation desalination operation and design. It is also found that the 1atomization effect of pressure-jet atomizers is lower than that of plain-jet airblast atomizers under the same condition.
