This presentation will provide information about how a major College of Education provides services for teachers on a rural Native American Reservation in the Southwest United States. The small village we work with is reached by dirt road. The school district consists of three schools-elementary, middle, and high school, with a total school population of about 1,200 students. The weather conditions are harsh and most students live in poverty, many in native dwellings without electricity or running water. School buses travel up to 60 miles each way on dirt roads to bring students to school. Students living more than 60 miles away stay in dormitories during the week. Students may spend upwards of four hours a day on the buses. Bad weather turns the roads to mud and school must be cancelled.
