Were interested in understanding how plants transduce pathogen effector recognition by intracellular NLR receptors to activate resistance pathways in effector-triggered immunity (ETI).For this, we are studying ETI conferred by the Arabidopsis TNL sensor-signaling pair RRS1/RPS4 which recognizes the bacterial effectors, AvrRps4 and PopP2, through the RRS1 WRKY domain.In vitro and in vivo data show that RRS1 is an effector decoy betraying PopP2 interference with the DNA-binding and defense gene trans-activating functions of multiple WRKY transcription factors in basal immunity.
