核子内部结构非常复杂,除了有3个价夸克,还有海夸克和胶子,是高能核物理最前沿的研究领域之一,还有许多根本性的具有挑战性的问题有待研究,比如:自旋危机、质量起源和夸克禁闭等电子一离子对撞机(EIC)可视为“超级多维电子显微镜”,通过对核子进行“断层扫描成像”,探测核子内部清晰图像,这将可以从根本上解决目前关于核子性质的疑难,深化人们对核子结构的微观认识,为核子结构领域研究做出重大发现提供极佳的机会。通过测量电子一质子和电子一原子核碰撞时甘介子、K介子和介子等的产额,EIC将会为以下问题提供测量数据:强子化过程对夸克质量的依赖关系以及原子核内物质对快速运动的夸克的响应。
