Background Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) is a non-invasive technique that quantitatively measures tissue stiffness [1].It consists of generating shear waves in tissue;acquiring MR images of the induced shear waves, and post-processing to generate quantitative stiffness maps.MRE has been used clinically to measure liver and breast stiffness, for diagnosing liver fibrosis and breast cancer. The aim of this study is to apply MRE, a western imaging technique,to quantitatively measure effects of acupuncture [2], an eastern medicinal practice, on muscle stiffness.
