  High density, high luminescence efficiency and high radiation hardness as well as fast decay time have been the requirements for scintillation materials.Lutetium ion, Lu3+ is the heaviest element of lanthanide with 4f14 configuration.Its especially suitable to be used as basic element for scintillation materials.Therefore, a serious Lu-based oxide scintillation materials, such as lutetium oxyorthosilicate (Lu2SiO5, shorten as LSO), lutetium pyrosilicate (Lu2Si2O7, shorten as LPS), lutetium perovskite (LuAlO3, shorten as LuAP) and lutetium aluminum garnet (Lu3Al5O12,shorten as LuAG) have been developed in the past decade.After being doped with Ce3+ ions, these materials perform very well in scintillation properties.Among them, LSO with density of 7.4g/cm3 has been proved to be an excellent scintillation crystal and applied in Positron Emission Tomography (PET), but LPS, LuAP and LuAG are still under studying.In this article, we are going to summarize the luminescence properties, crystal defects, growth problems as well as their possible applications.
