Based on an identifying technique of thermal analysis cooling curves and a database technique,a melt quality assessment method was adopted to evaluate the melt quality of grey iron for machine tool castings.The experimental results show that the differences of graphite morphologies and mechanical properties of the corresponding samples cast from two melts right after inoculation treatments converge to zero when the comprehensive difference parameter Ω,which presents the difference of the freezing zones between two cooling curves,approaches to zero.Based on a database established from a large amount of experimental results and judgment of the cast iron melt quality,on-line prediction of composition,microstructure,elastic modulus and other mechanical properties of cast irons could be realized.
