After billions of years of evolution,natural nacre exhibits the extraordinary integrated strong and tough properties with the ternary structure.Inspired by this typical hierarchical structure,multifunctional ternary artificial nacre is fabricated through synergistic toughening of graphene oxide(GO),montmorillonite(MMT)nanosheets and Poly(vinyl alcohol)via a vacuum-assisted filtration self-assembly process.The synergistic strengthening effect from GO and MMT nanosheets successfully achieved in the integrated strong and tough artificial nacre [1].Meanwhile,the artificial nacre shows high electrical conductivity and good fire-resistant property.This multifunctional artificial nacre has great potential applications in aerospace,flexible supercapacitor electrods,electromagnetic shielding and heat insulation and flame retardant.This kind of approach provides a new creative door for constructing multifunctional artificial nacre by synergistic effect for designing and fabricating integrated artificial nacre in the near future.
