Gynostemma pentaphyllum is an important medicinal herb of the Cucurbitaceae family,which grows in the edge of the forests,sparse woods or thickets of tropical to subtropical Asia.As the most widely distributed species in the Genus Gynostemma BL.,it has diploid,tetraploid,hexaploid and octaploid in cell types,but cannot obviously differentiate in the morphology among individuals of different ploidies.
