Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) as a class of important persistent organic pollutants (POPs) have been increasingly investigated.Herein, a novel method of molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction (MISPE) coupled to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was developed for the determination of 16 typical PAHs in seawater samples.A concept of "multiple molecule imprinting" was demonstrated by using PAHs mix as a template to form molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) consisting of 16 types of binding pockets, each specific for a particular PAH in the template mix.Compared with the non-imprinted polymers (NIPs), the MIPs showed an excellent affinity towards 16 PAHs in seawater with binding capacity (Bmax) of 111-195.0 μg g-1, and imprinting factor of 1.50-3.12.
