Cardiac transplantation offers a better solution,over mechanical alternatives available,for end stage cardiac disease.Unfortunately,limited supply of organs is unable to match its increasing demand.Transplantation of organs from non-human species (xenotransplantation) may be the ideal method to overcome this deficiency.Recently our laboratory has made significant progress in extending the heterotopic cardiac xenograft survival from three months to eleven months and beyond.Here we share some reasons for our recent success.
