Aim: The detailed mechanical properties of various layer of large conduit artery are important for understanding the function of the vessels.Traditionally, the artery wall was viewed as homogenous in biochemical and biomechanical analysis. This study was aimed at evaluating the mechanical role of thoracic media and adventitia in load-strain response in 16-and 32-week-old normotensive Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats and spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR).
