Humans have significantly increased nutrient inputs to terrestrial ecosystems over the pastfew decades in the Changjiang River basin. The models of Global-NEWS-DIN and Global-NEWS-DIP have successfully simulated the transport process of dissolved inorganic nitrogen(DIN) and dissolved inorganic phosphorous (DIP) from land to the Changjiang River during1970-2003.The total inputs of nitrogen (N) and phosphorous (P) from various sources (sewage, fertilizer, animal manure, atmosphere deposition and N fixation) increased about fourfold andnine fold in the basin during 1970-2003,respectively.
