Advanced space missions require larger and larger space structures for satellite antennas and solar sails.Such a space structure, composed of very flexible cables, beams, membranes and plates, should be packed into a small volume before launch and deployed to a huge configuration of thousands square meters on orbit.The deployment of the space structure is the typical dynamic process of rigid-flexible multibody system, featuring the nonlinear coupling between the overall rigid-body motion of the whole system and the large elastic deformations of flexible components such as a huge reflector mesh.
