Objective The aim of this paper is to study a simple method of projection coefficient calculation for image reconstruction based on the PET Simulation by GATE.Materials or Methods GATE (Geant4 Application for Tomographic Emission) is an advanced opensource and freely available software; it currently supports simulations of Emission Tomography,Computed Tomography (CT) and Radiotherapy experiments. The method is that based on the simulation of PET by GATE (Geant4 Application for Tomographic Emission),which classifies different situations of grids intercepted by the lines of response (LORs).Specially, the grid index used for the calculation is a two-dimensional with rows and columns respectively. The LORs are calculated by coincidence events of the simulation results of PET.Results The results show that the proposed approach is very effective, simple and the calculation is significantly reduced compared with the classical Siddon algorithm. And the results are precision as Siddon s.Conclusion Projection coefficient has crucial effect on image reconstruction algorithm. The cost of calculation of projection coefficient will be cut by the method, also image reconstruction will be fast and effective.
