A novel convenient, rapid and solvent-free method was developed for determination of the volatile compounds from the dried root and rhizome of the stem of Panax notoginseng(Burk.)F.H.Chen using headspace solid-phase micro-extraction (HS-SPME) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).The total ion chromatogram had 93 peaks.83 peaks were identified.Those compounds relative contents summed to 95.83% of the total volatile composition.
