A unique graphitic nanocage (GNCs) material with a highly nanoporous shell is prepared by using a sulfur (S)-doping template.Sulfur is being doped during the preparation of the Fe@C core-shell nanoparticles.By acid-treatment with a solution containing Thiobacillus ferroxidans (TF) cells, the removal of doped S atoms on the shells of hollow graphitic nanocages creates a high density of nanopores in situ, which causes the ferrous cores exposed to the acid. Thus, both S-doping and ferrous cores can be removed in one step with low concentration acid.
