Previous studies demonstrated that vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) was an effective therapy for depression.The present study was designed to examine the safety and effectiveness of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (ta-VNS) for patients with depression.Animal study on the intervening mechanism of ta-VNS in depression rats suggests that the regulation on hyper-active HPA axis may be one of the main factors of anti-depression.
