Psychological Autopsy (PA), as a data collection method for the victims of suicide, has been used in China for over a decade.This Western developed protocol needed to be tested in the Chinese societies.The testing included the procedure to conduct the data collection, the instruments to be employed for the proxy information acquisition, and the human subjects protection measures.After Dr.Michael Phillips and his teams work in China, Dr.Zhang Jie and his team started other large PA projects in China with the support from the US NIMH.Psychological Autopsy has been practiced in the Chinese culture with improvements.This symposium summarizes the application of the PA method in China and discusses how the procedure, instruments, as well as the human subjects protection considerations have been improved along with the culture requirements.
