The arc discharge characteristics of a multi-cusp ion source were studied.Some experimental results were observed by different settings: 1) No discharge was obtained when the surface magnetic flux density (Bs) of permanent magnet is 0.6 T and the current for each filament (Ifil) is 65 A,2) Stable discharge was obtained by changing the permanent magnets with the Bs of 0.4 T and Ifil=125 A.We present the simulation results,which agree with the experimental ones.Some discussions based on particle orbit theory and the simulation results are made.
