Colleges and universities are a very important component of National Innovation System.This paper has analyzed economic & social development,science & technology input & output of colleges and universities of each province,autonomous region and municipality direcdy under the central government,explained that there is only a moderate correlation between economic & social development and science & technology input & output of colleges and universities in different regions of China,and that there is a big regional disparity in consciousness and capacity of colleges and universities to serve the local economic development.
