Streptomyces vietnamensis is a newly designated streptomycete species possessing the ability to produce diffusible violet-blue pigment on a variety of media [1].Later this violet-blue pigment was found to be inhibitory against both bacteria and cancer cells [2].Three purified fractions from the ethyl acetate extracted pigment were identified by MS and NMR analysis as granaticin A,dihydrogranaticin A.and granaticin B,respectively.
