Objective:To analyze clinical and metabolic characteristics in the parents of women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) accompanied by hyperandrogenism (HA).Methods:In the present study,a total of 226 PCOS family trios (parents and proband,678 members)were recruited.Parents were divided into four groups based on different androgen levels of women with PCOS:group A,fathers of PCOS with HA (n=156);group B,fathers of PCOS without HA (n=70);group C,mothers of PCOS patients with HA (n=156);group D,mothers of PCOS patients without HA (n=70).After overnight fasting, blood samples were collected to determine fasting blood glucose, and blood lipid levels.Height, weight, waistline, hip circumference,Ferriman-Gallwey score, blood lipid levels and fasting glucose, and disease history were determined for all the parents. Results:Fathers of PCOS with HA had higher WHR (P=0.015),total (P =0.039) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels (P =0.043) compared with fathers of PCOS without HA.The prevalence of hypertension was increased in fathers of PCOS with HA compared with fathers of PCOS without HA (P=0.045).However,no significant differences were observed between mothers of PCOS patients with HA and mothers of PCOS patients without HA in clinical and metabolic characteristics (P>0.05).Conclusions:Total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels, the prevalence of hypertension were increased in fathers of PCOS with HA.
