  In this work,a novel subcritical n-butane extraction(SNBE)of castor oil from cold pressed cake was investigated.On the basis of single-factor experiments,it was observed that the decrease of moisture content(0.59-10.41%)and particle size(>355μm)had a positive effect on extraction efficiency,on the contrary,the decrease of initial oil content(20.79-48.51%)had a negative effect,and optimum extraction conditions for extraction temperature,extraction time(one operation),and number of operations were found to be 60 ℃,50 min,and five times,respectively.Under these conditions,the actual yield was 99.12±0.33%.
