The convective overshooting beyond the convective region and semi-convection is important in stars,for it causes extra mixing of chemical elements and transfers heat.The standard mixing-length theory and its variations cannot properly treat this problem,because they are unable to give reasonable turbulent diffusivity in both overshooting regions and semiconvection zones.
