Lots of research on sugar preferences, concentration preference and digestive ability for nectarivorous avian has been extensively carried out around the world. In contrast, relatively little is known at these aspects for frugivores or nectarivores mammals, particularly Old World Pteropodid bats. The aim of this study was to determine whether food preference was affected by sugar type and concentration, and more, whether the composition of their food was the ultimate reasons of their food preferences. We investigated consequently effect of five concentration (10%,20%,30%,40% and 50%) of sucrose and four equidensity sugar solution (sucrose, fructose, glucose and maltose) on food preference in two frugivorous bats (Cynopterus sphinx,Rousettus leschenaultii) and one nectarivorous bat(Eonycteris spelaea). Our results showed that the three bats species consistently preferred sucrose over equidensity solutions of fructose, glucose and maltose, and C.sphinx had a higher feeding choice at 20% and 30% concentrations while the other two species had significant preference at 50%.Sugar preferences by these three pteropodid species do not completely match with the composition of their hypothetical natural diet in our findings.E.spelaea does accord with our expected, nevertheless, the other two frgivorous bats have some discrepancy.
