Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurement of the stored energy is commonly used in nanostructured metals and alloys produced by severe plastic deformation (SPD).In this study, an ultra-high strength has been achieved for a high-pressure torsion processed Al-Cu-Mg alloy due to the multiply strengthening mechanisms, which comprised of the strengthening due to a significant increase of dislocation density, the great grain refinement, the solute cluster segregation to lattice defects and nano S-phase precipitation.During annealing in DSC, the modification of microstructures and the solid-phase transformations are correlated to the energy release and absorption. The estimation of stored energy is based on the microstructural analysis.
