This article presents the energy saving retrofit implements and operating analysis of the HVAC system in ITRI biomedical factory.The system adopts heat pump rather than electrical heater to provide hot water in the AHUs.The chilled water system of the heat pump has two operating modes,pre-cooling and re-cooling,according to the different piping design modifications.In pre-cooling mode,the AHU discharges the return chilled water to heat pump evaporator first and then chiller one.The water is precooled by heat pump.This reduces the cooling load of the main chiller and saves the chiller power.In re-cooling mode,the chiller provides chilled water into the heat pump evaporator to obtain lower supplying water temperature.It can enhance the dehumidify capacity of the AHU cooling coil or decrease the water flow rate and power of chilled water pump.The system also includes variable speed control in the hot water and chilled water pumps.According to the performance testing and data calculation results,the system shows 16%lower chilled water flow rate,70.0%~74.8%lower heating power demand under different operating conditions.
